It is possible that if they are set up such that they are looking through the shield (vs over as I always am) that looking through a near vertical, near flat plate has better optics than looking through curved, angled plastic.

With a lip like that you could still look over the top of it, but because the angle is so steep it would push the air up and over your helmet.
It wouldn't give you the same smooth flow that a higher windshield would though.
