Good luck selling a car without ncap and/or nhtsa certs. They do a pretty thorough job of telling manufacturers what they can or can't do. If you don't design to their standards you won't be allowed to sell a car! you've got six years.
the engine has nothing to do with handling. It's 2.4 seconds slower to 100 kph and you admit there's ridiculous turbo lag in the lower gears. Think about making it more driveable. If you price it accordingly with you time and effort it will have a very small niche.
People are increasingly intolerant of cars that only do one thing well, or decontented. VW's 1L is in $140,000 range.
