The dash protects against lower body injuries, and defogs the windshield. Making non legal mods doesnt really count. This is purely an engineering exercise - not a real car. You're risking your safety for minimal rewards - a few dollars a month? Nevermind the livability factor.

I do agree my lupo is partly engineering exercise, but still is a car a racecar to be precise. I havent built my lupo to save anything. I have spent about 10000€ and 5000 hours of my time to test parts and ideas for my own production car model. It will propably have lupo steering and suspension components. Production is estimated to start 2020.
I have risked my life to develop something new and exiting. However for me reaching that two liter mark and GTI performance levels = priceless
I am not sure how the dash protects my feet?. If there is dash my feet gets crushed by it when firewall moves back. If there is no dash there is more room for my legs so its safer from that point of view.
Legality issue is just something what someone has thinked is best for most. When people can kill themself legally with motorcyles so I dont mind at all braking some safety rules, because I am still 99% more safe than any biker out there.

Good luck selling a car without ncap and/or nhtsa certs. They do a pretty thorough job of telling manufacturers what they can or can't do. If you don't design to their standards you won't be allowed to sell a car! you've got six years.
the engine has nothing to do with handling. It's 2.4 seconds slower to 100 kph and you admit there's ridiculous turbo lag in the lower gears. Think about making it more driveable. If you price it accordingly with you time and effort it will have a very small niche.
People are increasingly intolerant of cars that only do one thing well, or decontented. VW's 1L is in $140,000 range.
I'll read the rest of your thread another time. GL

I don't want to spoil the fun, but the Lupo will be 15 to 22 years old by then.
Parts will become ever harder to get.

In limited series production the age is not the problem. And the parts actually are cheaper as it gets older. When I bought my red 3L avergare price was around 3000+€. Now you can buy one for avg price around 2000€. They produced 30000 pcs of Lupo 3L models and some of them are crashed already but you can still buy main components that worn out from dealer or as spare parts. Like bearings and brakes etc.
Most parts of the 3L can be used to make 3 totally different type of vehicles:
1 ecocar which gets safety related components, steering brakes gearbox etc.
1 luxury car that will get just the engine, like my Audi A8 will be a test rig
1 race car, from the body, which my red will also become.

I think that the Lupo 2L it's a challenging R+D project.
With that money, time and knowledge I agree that something "better" for me could be done.
It means that if I had 10.000€ to pimp my ride I would ask Vekke to have my custom Vag done using my own criteria.
maybe vekke it is the next Konigseg
watch the full 10 chapters series from Drive channel on youtube oon the engeenering "Inside Koenigsbegg":

That is a sweet looking Lupo. I really like the lines of the roof chop. I read the thread but I don't remember if you posted what your steady state mpg is. Will you please post for the record your steady state mpg, with no pulse and glide or engine-off-coasting (EOC) at 100 kph (62 mph). Your mods are an inspiration. I don't know if I will be so bold with my Golf but I hope to incorporate some of your ideas. Thank you for showing the way.
