Sales aspirations - actual or imagined - are probably the most important objections to be overcome in the boardrooms.
However ...
Nobody in the know gave the revived low-cost car manufacturer Dacia much credit - not even its parent company Renault.
But Dacia's sales are booming ... all over the EU.
Other manufacturers are (too) late trying to catch up with this success despite a declining market.

There could very well be a market for an affordable, back-to-basics and highly fuel efficient vehicle.
Even if it looks a bit weird.
Hey, even BMW think their ugly duckling i3 will sell

The aerodynamic improvements Vekke made can also be made to comply with regulations.
The car would likely need to be a bit higher off the ground, though in the EU that requirement is already being relaxed on cars with adaptive suspension.
These would add considerable cost, however.

Interior finishes don't need to add much weight if they aren't overdone.
Removing that, is the poor man's way to simulate the reduced weight than OEMs could very easily take off somewhere less obvious.

Yet if they really want to, they could take off far more weight using plastics - about 200lbs off the shell of a compact car, as the Evonik Golf has shown.
