Even the largest car companies in the world use mules to test new techniques and develop new models; mixing parts as they see fit, covering all with existing body shells to keep them away from the public eye.

A windtunnel can identify specific problems in a design, but there is a fair amount of aerodynamic knowledge that has been put into this car and it shows.
When you are certain the shape is correct no windtunnel can prove otherwise.
