I will point out it was super clean : smog wise.
And you have heard of electric cars, right? They can use ZERO oil-based fuels (depends on the grid of course), require ZERO oil changes, and the service parts are a fraction of a comparable ICE car. So electric cars shouldn't exist since (as you claim) both car companies and oil companies are going to lose out. Yet here they are (or here they come)... Nissan Leaf, Chevy Spark EV, BMW i3, VW eGolf, Ford Focus Electric, Tesla S ...

Right and most were made outside our country and at long last our car makers are following along kicking and crying all the way.
But with so many OTHER car makes doing they they had no choice.
