Yup, you seem to be close to the facts, jedi. A little searching suggests that all Cali gas might have 5.7% ethanol and that CA does not require labeling at the pump (or at least probably did not as recently as 2010).

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color.
