I also experimented with S-Mode which is supposed to make the car feel more sporty. It doesn't really, it just makes the engine rev more with no real benefit to either speed or economy.
In short same sh|t (auto gearbox) different trip.

Look at it this way, you used to get ~64mpg out the VRS- which is a 1.9 4cyl Manual
Hermann is a 3.0 6cyl auto- 50% more capacity, yet delivering 60% of the MPG
