Thats OK - that Ginourmous roundabout now has a tram station next to it full of trams...

...going nowhere at the moment.

What sights did you see whilst here, anything particularly good ? I saw the castle when I arrived here but Mrs A (a resident then of 10 years) refused to go as she had been there too often.

That's one we will try - Mrs A is Indian by origin, Kenyan by birth. We have tried the Kalpna - the Dosas are superb, and a new one locally is the Spice Lounge which has taken over a closed pub and is pretty good.

On the car front I've updated the fuel log.

Hermann hasn't moved for a while except for a business trip today which needed a receipt so I filled up using my new technique of first click, count 5, try again for a repeat of 3 times at the end - he hadn't moved much since the last fillup using the same technique.

Hermann managed 38 MPG (imp) on the (90%) motorway trip - interestingly the on board display and the SG2 both estimated he had done 43-ish on both legs of the trip so maybe higher speeds mean less accurate MPG figures.

I also experimented with S-Mode which is supposed to make the car feel more sporty. It doesn't really, it just makes the engine rev more with no real benefit to either speed or economy.

In short same sh|t (auto gearbox) different trip.

Look at it this way, you used to get ~64mpg out the VRS- which is a 1.9 4cyl Manual

Hermann is a 3.0 6cyl auto- 50% more capacity, yet delivering 60% of the MPG

Yes, but I suspect not when used just around town - this tank will be telling. Average (instrumental) is about 30-35 on the journey to work, and about 38 going back. Based on the above real world tank to tank will be nearer 28-32.

Pondering a tuning box as some do offer eco settings too - might have tapped that before ?

Sorry, as a professional cynic, I sometimes struggle with appearing positive

Regarding tuning boxes- I'd be careful of what you buy- some of them tend to just vary fuel temp readings to alter the rate of fuel flow/injector opening.

On a complex modern diesel like yours, I could see that having consequences for any inter related parameters that didn't get altered at the same time?

Hermann managed infinity MPG today as he went on the back of a truck to Glasgow to have his crusty rear treated to some TLC by Audi's bodyshop there.

Fnar fnar.

In his place is a 1.2 Polo - same colour and same country of origin but the only other shared attribute is the over-optimistic MPG gauge - apparently I did 75 MPG on the way to work, which is entirely nonsense.

The Polo is worth every penny I am paying for it, which is £15 for the insurance and maybe £5 for fuel for the next few days. Otherwise it is hateful in every way - tiny boot, numb steering, rough engine, a manual gearbox which has a change more random than a 1982 Allegro - and they had a square steering wheel

And this (above) is a far more interesting place to be.

Still it keeps the rain off.
