There are always some body work to do into old beaters. BTW have you never considered to replace some floor panels with custom ones made out of some lighter material such as aluminium? Attaching it to the rest of the body with Araldite instead of either welding or rivetting prevents the galvanic corrosion at a certain degree. Or you could make that with fiberglass that is gonna be free from any corrosion, I've already seen some old Jeeps which had the floor patched with fiberglass after some rusty pieces were cut away. Another reasonably easy-to-work material is plywood, widely used to make floor panels for shuttle buses (you can soak it with Araldite too, to increase its durability).
