Robert A. Heinlein wrote "Stupidity cannot be cured." That is a good quote, but harsh, and whenever someone says something like "stupid people should be shot" I point out that they really would not like that, depending on who the judge was. I imagine that plenty of intelligent people who contribute to society would be considered stupid by some people.
However, I think that this is a good argument for survival of the fittest.
