That goes beyond any reasonability.

No end to the crazy. Crazy mods, crazy "reporting", conspicuously fact-free.

Yep everyone who saves fuel will explode. Better use more gas as the alternative to save gas is to carry around a spark ridden plastic barrel of fuel in the rear passenger cabin that you poorly seal and design.

I wonder what was really going on there.
In the seventies as the first oil crisis raged and gas was on limits, some experimented with paint thinner and such.
Nowadays these get taxed so badly that they are more expensive than gas, but when they weren't you could apparently mix them in with the gas or evaporate them ahead of the intake to reduce the use of (proper) gas.
Maybe he hit upon a source of something cheap to mix in?
I'd rather learn from a mistake than just cover it up.

rediculous i bet this has no mpg benefit i can see it extending range, but the added weight is like 200 extra pounds, i would have downsized my van for a geo metro cheaper & safer then this crazy barrel idea if you need more space buy a trailer for your geo. extreme mods on am inneficient van is a terrible idea.

You can't fix stupid.

Robert A. Heinlein wrote "Stupidity cannot be cured." That is a good quote, but harsh, and whenever someone says something like "stupid people should be shot" I point out that they really would not like that, depending on who the judge was. I imagine that plenty of intelligent people who contribute to society would be considered stupid by some people.
However, I think that this is a good argument for survival of the fittest.

Yesterday in the paper i read about a lady wanting to use untaxed heating oil in her diesel mercedes. The "expert" could find nothing wrong with it besides viscosity, impurities and moral objections.
There's also the illegal travelling gas stations in Britain selling cheap untaxed agricultural gas.
Alaskans stealing winter heating oil and gasoline stockpiles.
Maybe he was trying to save by buying gasoline in bulk? Gas tank to small for the 20 gallon grocery store maximum?
