Welcome. Houston's a dense enough city for biking to be feasible, esp. if you're less than ten miles from work. There's a lot of motorcyclists here who I'm certain will share insights with you, and a writeup used to be the
front page of the blog about a guy who modded his small scooter and picked up impressive gains in top speed, and huge gains in fuel economy.
I don't know how many of the guys have made velomobiles though.
