Be careful here. There is a difference between the allowable rim width (the rim widths the tire manufacturers approve) and what you can make the tire fit on. Using rims outside that allowable range can cause issues.

Using overly wide rim width is called "stretching" and results in basically stiffening the sidewall. It can cause a small improvement in RR and handling - BUT - it really hurts the ride, somewhat hurts traction and wear. In extreme cases, the beads pop off in turns - very bad.
