European governments are concerned about the freedom to use the roads as faulty trailers regularly cause accidents that block the road.
It seems that the freedom to tow whatever you dream up does not combine with the freedom to keep moving at all on our busy roads.
It is hard to get statistics, but I remember a news item about a road check where all passing trailers were tested and over half the trailers had one or more dangerous problems like non-functioning brakes (on braked trailers), malfunctioning lighting, bad tires or construction faults.
Sure, you can use a trailer constructed from the better half of a car, IF you get it tested and certified.
Unreasonable?
Lets put it this way; I could get better mileage if there were less accidents on our roads.
