The Fabia is on the same platform but different in size; notably more roomy inside and a bigger boot. The 1.4 would be the old Fabia? Slightly less economical if you drive slow, but all the same if you don't.
My neighbor at work has a Fabia 1.2 TDI Combi as a lease car. Says it is a slug even if you rev it. He just got it for the space, drives it hard and gets maybe 18 km per liter, say 40 mpg US. He has had a lot of damage to the windscreen, both chips and full through bursts.
Other than that, he is satisfied. Takes long trips to Germany, no complains about the seats. But would not buy it with his own money.
