Because it's not 'really' a charging port, it's a data connection port that happens to also provide power? So tablet charges, and probably would do USB data connection if I didn't have wireless on my router; cell phone charges and does data transfer; cameras only do data transfer, and require separate charger for the battery.
Most US chargers that are only chargers are pretty much the same for a given voltage & current level, so the 'wall warts' are fairly interchangable.
