Put as many throttle plates as you want between the air filter (main entrance) and the engine, when the plate is closed the idle control valve act as a bypass, as long as the main entrance is open there is not much restriction. higher compression = better fuel efficiency, with clogged filter we can not achieve optimum compression, there will be some misfires going on that you may not even feel.
I never had K&N filter, I always use OEM parts and change them as needed but I like to try for my self and see the result. I guess the air/fuel ratio sweet spot is laying between the oil companies and the air filter manufacturers.
