The only potential downside is (on the Insight, anyway) the DC-DC converter shuts off with a "basic" kill switch.

There's a second mod -- a little more complex -- which allows you to re-energize the DC-DC, if you want to. (I didn't bother, though I might have considered it if driving much at night, due to the 12v draw of the lights.)
