Got more road time with the trailer.
Had one round trip out to Somerville without the trailer along the back roads and got indicated mileage ~23mpg out and ~24mpg coming back at a set speed of 60mph. Another round trip out further past Somerville with the trailer along the same route garnered an indicated 27mpg out and an indicated 25mpg coming back at a set speed of 60mph.
Made a run out to Houston with the trailer and got an indicated 26.7mpg out and 24.8mpg coming back (heavy stop and go in downtown Houston) at 65mph.
I am looking to expand the width of the trailer's front end about 3" to better match the width of the truck's rear end. I might try some Foamular on the outside so I don't have to completely rebuild everything or I might just pull it apart and rebuild it the right way which should be pretty easy since it's just a frame and Coroplast.
