But yeah, too many assumptions. I also quail at the assumption that anything that has to be shipped automatically causes more GHG... what's important to note is that the huge volume of parts and items shipped via cargo vessel means that the amount of fuel used to ship any single part of a car is quite small, and that mass producing in one place and mass shipping it to other places might have a smaller environmental impact than creating big, expensive production facilities at multiple locations.
