If he does decide to turbo it he could probably benefit from it. Boosting these d-series motor, if tuned properly, they can gain mpg from it. It would definitely be a fun project and something to confirm and prove as the engine bay is almost similar to the ej8. The only thing I worry about that needs custom fab is the rear t-bracket. Engine harness is basicly plug and play so if he decided to go obd1 with tuning options he is good to go.
