It looks like a good start, can't wait to see what the final product ends up looking like. Are you going to reuse the original gasket or rely on the silicon? I especially like the use of extra material instead of throwing it away or buying new stuff, good re-use/recycling!
Also, I assume you checked your local laws about side mirrors...
