Sure the G-series engine is kinda outdated, but is still not really a bad option at all. A 12-valve head would be a good improvement, alongside MPFI which was only available for the turbocharged versions. It actually seems to make sense to use the G-series because of its light weight and a good throttle response for an engine at its displacement class.
