Its likely since its a 93 the commonly available tool cant pull any codes. I believe all dealers have a code reader for pre odb2 cars, but those are few and far between. A lot of cars have an alternative blink code system. Now if it has a check engine light, you could try checking it for power as the check engine light maybe disabled or burned out.

Yeah, an alignment can scrub your mpg a few. Also a worn wheel bearing, sticking brakes, etc.
When I was a mechanic and it came to automatics it was that. A dirty automatic that ran ok, dont bother the fluid. You change the fluid, you wash away the crap holding it together on the inside and it started to slip. You got a dirty transmission that doesnt shift right, you can improve the performance by changing it and or adding the lucas transmission additive.
