I had this idea in middle school. Put electrical parts of a generator in place of the gas engine in a front wheel drive car. then put the rear axle from a rwd car in and an electric motor bolted to the drive shaft coupling. wire them together with a variable resister connected to the accelerator

Thought it was a great idea until I realized that I had no way of getting going. But if I started at the top of a hill then I could roll down to make the generator turn and thereby power the electric motor.

but

Then you get to the bottom of the hill. SO here is the genius part, downshift. put the transaxle in 1st or 2nd. muhahaha generator is turning faster than the electric motor. I would be able to drive for ever.

I'd just have to remember to park at the top of a hill.

Then I realized stop signs exist.
