If you think my comment is irrelevant to Rand's ideology, then realize that her use of public assistance is equally irrelevant.
I was against the $8k First Time Home Buyer Credit, but still claimed the credit when I made an eligible purchase. If I could have voted against the credit, I would have, despite my personal gain from it. Claiming the credit does not discredit my belief that it should not exist.
Rational people do not put themselves at a disadvantage, especially when the opportunity to remove some of the funds from a corrupt system presents itself.
Imagine if someone were staunchly opposed to robbery and were themselves victims of a thief. If later some of their possessions were returned to them, their argument that robbery should not exist is still valid.
