Well, aftermarket wheel covers don't fit the Prius' wheels--they're a proprietary design, and the wheels are black-painted aluminum 10-spoke wheels. I don't want to mess them up by drilling (sometimes I leave the covers off, when I'm only using the car in town for a stretch, because I like the way they look), and I think it's a more elegant and simple solution to attach the pans to the existing wheel covers. Cutting out the centers would, I think, allow too much flex and increase the possibility of losing one on a bump or pothole. Nearly 8,000 miles on this setup, and no loosening of the covers as yet.
