That's true, and well said. Most people want a hatchback so they can have more cargo space. Some of these hatchbacks are so small that it defeats that purpose. More of a fashion statement than a practical vehicle.
Another downside to hatchbacks is that their inherent aerodynamics are not conducive to good fuel economy. It's a trade-off. You can't have it all.
Also, don't expect the EPA estimates for MPG to be accurate, as actual FE experienced is typically lower than stated. Disclaimer: "Your mileage may vary."
