BTW, Basjoos - Have you ever considered a small-engine Diesel conversion?
At various times I have considered it (also the EV conversion), But the lean burn engine currently installed provides close to diesel-like efficiency while burning less expensive regular gasoline. Also the Honda lean burn engine installation was a much simpler and cheaper process than replacing the Honda engine/transmission with a VW diesel/transmission. Also repair work on a Honda engine repairs is cheaper than the equivalent repair work would be on a VW diesel.

I declined on doing an EV conversion at this time because of the battery range limitations and because at 70-80mpg my fuel costs are roughly equivalent at the current gasoline prices and electricity rates. Also replacing a worn out lean burn engine with a used imported lean burn engine is much cheaper than replacing a set of worn out batteries 200,000 miles down the road.
