Once the old man realized it was a "gussied up" Volt (liked metros "coupe de volt"). He said "no way". They had told him it was a V6 6 or 8 speed (quoted both). I though it was direct drive but that was not researched recently by me. I think electric cars will have transmissions eventually, hence my patent.

But the real point was, after 68 years, he would buy her a $70k car, she knows she can get what she wants, that's the priceless part of it.

My advice was to get the base coupe, whih is not yet available but it would be the cheapest car Cadillac sells, with no 100% markup options. They have to think ahead and thats not far when you were born in 1921 and 1925. Absolutely lease it and ask if the lease expires when they expire.

Half the money and they would never learn to use any additional options although the proximity warnings would be nice if they could react fast enough.

I appreciate everyones imput, even though it might not seem so from some of my responses. I did the research the old man can't (or wont=doesnt matter) and they decided for now to keep their 13 and 15 year old Eldorados, which will pull almost the same mileage as the ELR on the highway.
