The 2 door Volt that costs as much as a Tesla Model S, what more could you want?
Any reason why the Model S wouldn't work for them?

I wrote a long reply that explained the situation precisely but it took too long and my login information and post was lost.
Who here thinks they have the knowledge or the authority to tell my mother what car to buy. I certainly don't so where does that place the rest of you. Best answer I can give you is.
Because, for the first time in 89 years of unselfish sacrifice and decication to her children and grandchildren.
SHE WILL GET IT IF SHE WANTS IT BAD ENOUGH, and that is priceless.

Once the old man realized it was a "gussied up" Volt (liked metros "coupe de volt"). He said "no way". They had told him it was a V6 6 or 8 speed (quoted both). I though it was direct drive but that was not researched recently by me. I think electric cars will have transmissions eventually, hence my patent.
But the real point was, after 68 years, he would buy her a $70k car, she knows she can get what she wants, that's the priceless part of it.
My advice was to get the base coupe, whih is not yet available but it would be the cheapest car Cadillac sells, with no 100% markup options. They have to think ahead and thats not far when you were born in 1921 and 1925. Absolutely lease it and ask if the lease expires when they expire.
Half the money and they would never learn to use any additional options although the proximity warnings would be nice if they could react fast enough.
I appreciate everyones imput, even though it might not seem so from some of my responses. I did the research the old man can't (or wont=doesnt matter) and they decided for now to keep their 13 and 15 year old Eldorados, which will pull almost the same mileage as the ELR on the highway.
regards

Sounds reasonable.
Coupe de Volte -- I can't claim that one! Read it somewhere. Jim Kenzie, I think.

Old Mech, my mother has had a grand total of one new car in her life, her current Camry, and the picture of her when Dad bought it for her is very important to me. Unfortunately, her car outlasted him. I really want to put myself in a position where I can help her replace it when the time comes, even if I am still driving my Civic and repairing it regularly. I might try to influence her decision if necessary, but I would not be worried about being happy with her car, it would be her car, and her happiness and well-being would be the entire point.
