Old Mech, my mother has had a grand total of one new car in her life, her current Camry, and the picture of her when Dad bought it for her is very important to me. Unfortunately, her car outlasted him. I really want to put myself in a position where I can help her replace it when the time comes, even if I am still driving my Civic and repairing it regularly. I might try to influence her decision if necessary, but I would not be worried about being happy with her car, it would be her car, and her happiness and well-being would be the entire point.
