Did you pressure test the cap when you did the system check or did the radiator come with a new one? The cap until it reaches pressure shouldn't send coolant to the expansion bottle and as it cools it should return it to the radiator. With that tube open I wouldn't think there would be sufficient pressure on the system to allow it in to the expansion bottle. Maybe a Insight cap works different? In the video he raised the front of the car did you also try this?

Edit: Actually don't see raising the front as being useful you would want the bleed point to be the highest point in the system so the air would collect there to be let out.
