So I was poking around trying to decipher the EPA testing methodology and found these pages.
Download Fuel Economy Data
I downloaded the "2015 Fuel Economy Datafile" and found a great sort able resource. It probably has been mentioned here before but I haven't seen it so thought maybe it was worth mentioning.
I personally like the column N "Highway un-adjusted FE" which i believe is the old standard, completely un-adjusted, old school easy acceleration, easy braking, low speed highway test that best reflects the way hypermillers drive.
Here it shows a 10.3 mile test with a maximum speed of 60 mph and quite a bit of 40-60 mph fluctuation.
Detailed Test Information
So then sorting that column high to low and you see some good numbers, 3 almost 70 MPG hybrids, 2 more 65-67 hybrids, the TDI Golfs and Jettas, the BMW 328d turbo diesel, and the lowly Mirage CVT. Money wise it is the bargain economy champ. The un-adjusted old school city is 49.4 mpg, and highway 63.4 mpg. The Fiesta SFE is also pretty high and probably a much better car overall. Also contrary to the sticker they put on the window the manual version gets better then the auto in those old school tests, 41/61 mpg for the manual compared to 36/54 mpg for the auto.
They also list a lot of the other features and is a good way to compare lots of cars in one spot.
