The snow building up is a big issue in winter, but there's always a solution. I'm stopping for a minute when it will build up and I'm cleaning the frame, wheels etc. Don;t know if silicone would help there. I think I'll give it a shot.
Disc are much better for snow, that's for sure... I had one set of rims worn out in one winter with V-brakes.
