Oooo, I'm spending summers in Wisconsin! Here they text year round
Now that it's warm again I'm starting to miss winter, or more specifically the almost empty bike lanes. It's getting hard to squeeze past recreational bikers going 12 km/h side-by-side, who are passing recreational bikers going 10 km/h side-by-side. I have to watch out for bikers with earphones as they are not paying attention to me, or anyone else. Plus the "batmans" in dark clothes with no lights after dusk, etc
There are at least 20 times more people on the bike lanes than in January, but the number of cars seems to have also increased. Where are they coming from?!?

The fall weather here is gorgeous now but I am slowly facing the prospect of getting a bike ready for winter. Cleaning and painting parts, checking the winter tires, charging the batteries for the lights, and testing improvements to the fairing.

We don't technically have "bad" weather here, but I do ride in both the rain and cold. Occasionally it dips below freezing here in like February. Never seen snow, but I'd probably ride in that, too!

That is about as cold as I care to go. My rear wheel stopped turning when snow built up between the tire and the front of the chain stay. I wonder if disk wheels would help in deep snow or if silicone spray is enough to minimize loading on the rim?

The snow building up is a big issue in winter, but there's always a solution. I'm stopping for a minute when it will build up and I'm cleaning the frame, wheels etc. Don;t know if silicone would help there. I think I'll give it a shot.
Disc are much better for snow, that's for sure... I had one set of rims worn out in one winter with V-brakes.

I'd rig up a wedge shaped snow removal device nearly tangent to the tire on the seat stay. It might take enough stuff off that even if your tires don't shed snow, they wouldn't carry enough to get caught.
