But what matters, though, is the vehicle performance to you as an owner. So doing most of your driving in an already-efficient 2-seater does more for your bottom line than improving the efficiency of a 6+ passenger vehicle that goes 99% of its miles with one passenger at most.
Same reasoning applies to the general population: convincing the 40% or more of the population that they'd be just as happy with 2-seaters cuts fuel consumption more than improving efficiency of the unnecessarily-large cars they have been persuaded to buy.
