It's doing the same as a XL1 already !

Let's put it another way :

There is a bottom limit to the efficiency of a gas or diesel engine.
Even an electric vehicle's consumption can be addressed in terms of efficiency (remember a third of electricity is wasted on heat in the wire).

My point is you can reach that bottom and then work for more potential out of those kWs !
