Smooth underpanels. The underside of most 4X4's is an aerodynamic nightmare. If designed sturdily enough, they can double as skid plates and if designed properly, can block off many of the underside nooks and crannies that collect salt and road crud. A fringe benefit is it also reduces "road" noise, much of which is created by the wind turbulence under the vehicle. When plowing through deep snow, it can also prevent snow from entering the underside of the engine compartment and piling up against the firewall.
