Yes, on a volt there is no way for a normal human being to reset a false check engine light.

The DTC that is set can brick the car until GM resets it with their tool and then obviously wants to charge because you aren't supposed to have anything unapproved in the OBDII port.

The scanguage interferes during startup and can (but not always) set a DTC.

The work around is to plug in the scangage after the car is running and remove before shutting it off, with my luck I would forget so I am not risking it for daily use.

The true workaround is to get a dashdaq but that thing certainly makes no attempt to save anyone any money.
