Apparently, the GenIV 2016 Prius ain't gonna be SO revolutionary as we think:

Sounds like simply "reduction" of parasitic electrical losses...and little more.

Toyota sets a goal of 10% improvement each generation. Gen IV should get 5 mpg better than Gen III

Yes, on a volt there is no way for a normal human being to reset a false check engine light.
The DTC that is set can brick the car until GM resets it with their tool and then obviously wants to charge because you aren't supposed to have anything unapproved in the OBDII port.
The scanguage interferes during startup and can (but not always) set a DTC.
The work around is to plug in the scangage after the car is running and remove before shutting it off, with my luck I would forget so I am not risking it for daily use.
The true workaround is to get a dashdaq but that thing certainly makes no attempt to save anyone any money.

The 2011 Chebby Cruze was NOT compatible with SGII, but not to the point of stopping it from running. It just caused "random" error codes to flash.
Linear Logic wasn't able to getting anything to work until the 2012-13 models, which had different OBDII software incorporated by GM.

Still way too heavy and expensive.
Chevy, give us a spark/sonic based version with a 700cc triple or maybe even twin. Give it a simple top gear direct drive like honda does with the new accord hybrid.
Such a vehicle should get 50+ mpg on the hiway and would be much cheaper.

POINT TO REMEMBER - The VOLT is GM's response to the mandated EPA/CARB's "...play OUR game and make something EV, or else..."

GM had a sneak peak event for select Volt owners the other day. Of course they all had to sign NDAs, but there is a little new info.
- Increased range (EV and gas)
- Has a rear bench seat (but doesn't seat 3 adults?)
- More torque
- Uses regular vs premium gas
- GPS based charging (recognizes home, work, etc. and adjusts charger accordingly)
