I had 4 pairs of smooth jawed vice grips to clamp off all wheels at the same time. I could perform a very effective diagnosis in the parking lot, without even jacking the car up or putting it on a lift.
Since most customers had experiences with shops that charged significant money just to diagnose problems, minimizing diagnostic charges was always a great way to start a relationship with a new customer. It showed them you would not waste their money with hit and miss guessing.
Even worse were shops that charged people hundreds of dollars and didn't even fix the problem.
