When I replaced my muffler, I also restored the previous owner's use of insulated copper wire for one mount, instead of the stock rubber. That transmits enough sound to the interior that I can hear right away when exhaust, and presumably intake, pressures rise. Of course, one must resist the temptation to enjoy the sound.
