Everybody around here runs grill blocks in the winter. Chrome panels with small perforations are popular on shiny pickups, but cardboard or carpet don't raise eyebrows. I wrapped my bumper with two loops of rope, and insert a black Coroplast panel behind them. If my fan comes on, I slide it over a bit to let more air in. Some cars would work better with more panels and ropes for adjustments.

Really Easy Vacuum Reading

When I replaced my muffler, I also restored the previous owner's use of insulated copper wire for one mount, instead of the stock rubber. That transmits enough sound to the interior that I can hear right away when exhaust, and presumably intake, pressures rise. Of course, one must resist the temptation to enjoy the sound.

I filled up for the 2nd time with the car. I've learned my lesson, 3 clicks it is! The first click brought me to ~5 gallons. The 2nd click was a little over 7 gallons, and the 3rd brought me to 7.25 gallons. Anyways, it shows that my first tank was a pretty erroneous short fill. My current average of 47 mpg shows accurately what I've been getting. I was hoping I was in the low 50s. Looks like there is a bit more work to be done to achieve that.

Ouch! It's frustrating when you get a bad fill, that's happened to me once or twice.

Its not that big of a deal. It would have been nice to better calibrate the SG though. It is reading a little high.

Well, I knew they wouldn't last long. I already lost one of my two grill block halves. Thankfully, it was the passenger side one. The driver's side covers the radiator. I'll have to come up with a better solution. Faster warm up times would be very nice.

I filled up for the third time last night. I got a disappointing 41 mpg. I'm not sure why its so low. The SG had me at high 40s, and nearly 50 mpg.

What the heck? Time to fix the grille block and put in that coolant heater!
Was that a 3-click fill?

It was a 3 click fill. I'm not sure what is going on. I have had some small issues with stalling, but its fairly rare.

Well if it's any consolation, I got 41 in the Flea once... 3rd fill-up, and it was my worst tank ever. Then I started modding and figured out how to drive it.
