keeping it basic then, how long have you had the car, it is about 15 years old. fuel filter? is it still under the hood on the '01 models? that would jive with the "italian tune-up" making a difference if not the weather, I suppose

Well, I bought it about 2.5 years/25,000 miles ago.
Fuel filter is conveniently located in the fuel tank and is integrated into the fuel pump. Since I'm not noticing any fuel pressure issues (no hesitation or stumbling), I think I'll leave that one be.
Possibly injectors getting dirty...
