These studies pop up every few years and on the surface they may well have a bit of truth in them. However, IIRC from past reading, oil companies and refineries are one of the largest users of electricity in the nation. Hence they must also be using electricity created from burning coal. I can't find the documentation on this information so it could well have come from a "greenie" without scientific proof. However some of the power used to refine oil into gasoline is likely to have come from coal burning plants just as it is used to charge electric vehicles. That means that gasoline pollutes twice when it is burned. The good thing about coal burning plants is that their pollution levels can be lowered by cleaning their exhaust if and when our politicians decide it is expedient. Instead of having a cleaner in each vehicle as with gas or diesel, the cleaning can be done at the source. Food for thought.
