I can't speak for other States but mine raised the gas tax just a year or two ago and now some factions want to do it again. I think in this case it's a little too soon to come back to the trough for more.

I oppose mileage-based tax collections- I believe it would require a most intrusive and unwieldy support system.
I would much rather have our state raise the gasoline tax on gasoline rather than charge a $50 "hybrid" fee which in the case of my 1981 comutacar raise the cost per mile by a factor of at least 5 times.

But while I am being choosy I also rather see extremely heavy farm and mine equipment either banned or paying a high fee to egress public roads (as opposed to pay exactly zero) but alas I don't have a choice on that either.
