Yeahbut...
I think this is going to be a very temporary price dip; raise the tax and it'll be there for the inevitable price "correction".
I can't speak for other States but mine raised the gas tax just a year or two ago and now some factions want to do it again. I think in this case it's a little too soon to come back to the trough for more.
The thing about taxes is, once there they almost never go away or go down.
I have some issues with how it's spent too... but what do I know?
I oppose mileage-based tax collections- I believe it would require a most intrusive and unwieldy support system.

The temporary nature of the dip is why we need to talk about it in the open. Sneaking tax increases through when nobody's going to notice is BS.

As long as we do not have a tax to fund the IRS. That would seem like they are taxing us in order to hire more tax collectors.

Fuel taxes are state by state; therefore they need all the cars bugged so they know when you're out of state. That didn't fly in the Oregon State legislature.

I'm a bit surprised at schadenfreude about Russians struggling with low revenues. Remember what happened when FDR cut off the oil to Japan, threatening their economy? We shouldn't wish misfortune on anyone except our enemies, and the only enemies I have are the ruling class (particularly the American ruling class). Their sanctions on Russia are an act of war. I'm glad the Russians are willing to put up with Washington DC idiocy, for the moment anyway.
The real sad thing about this price drop is that idiots will buy SUVs, then be stuck (yet again) when the oil price goes up. But that's the free market for you. There is a cost to being an idiot.
People calling for taxes? Go ahead and pay extra for that fuel on your own. There is no need for you to be dragging the rest of us into it. We can do without your so-called economic "help".

I would much rather have our state raise the gasoline tax on gasoline rather than charge a $50 "hybrid" fee which in the case of my 1981 comutacar raise the cost per mile by a factor of at least 5 times.
But while I am being choosy I also rather see extremely heavy farm and mine equipment either banned or paying a high fee to egress public roads (as opposed to pay exactly zero) but alas I don't have a choice on that either.
Cheers
Ryan

When Edgar Cayce said that Russia would be the salvation of the world, it was hard to see because the — well, let's call them Bolsheviks — were in charge. But now Russia is like an adult dealing with a petulant brat of a child.

If that's how you feel then you will love this.
Did you hear the idiot in charged agreed to pay Iran $5 billion dollars to abandon their nuclear program?
That seems more like a mob shake down than strategic politics.
If Iran is good, we will eventually give them about 12 trillion total.
Then they can surely buy or build as many nuclear weapons as they want.
Just think what it will do to the price of oil when (not if) iran tests their first nuclear weapon. Knowing them their first test may be to drop it on one of their neighbors.

I'd be willing to abandon my nuclear program for far less.
Where did the $5,000,000,000 come from? We already have -$18,000,000,000,000

Guess its going to come out of the same hole that they got the last 18 trillion out of.
