Not quite as good as 4wd for going, better than 4wd for stopping.
I am in New Mexico, we shouldn't ever need snow and ice tires.

I thought about bringing my snow mobile back with me from maine last summer when I visited. But I though, no, having a snow mobile in NM would be stupid. I could have driven it to work and school for the better part of 2 weeks.
